This two-and-a-half-hour training course is designed to equip and support those working with adults in a wide range of settings, including faith, charity, community, and education. Whether you are in a paid or volunteer role, the course will strengthen your understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and build confidence in recognising and responding to concerns involving adults at risk of harm.

Grounded in current legislation, ethical practice, and informed by trauma-informed approaches and the voice of lived experience, the course is structured around the Five R’s of safeguarding—Recognise, Respond, Report, Record, and Review. These principles are explored in depth, providing a clear and practical framework to guide decision-making and support safe, consistent practice.

Safeguarding adults at risk of harm

Participants will explore safeguarding in adult contexts through a range of real-world scenarios, considering the diverse needs and experiences of adults at risk. The course examines key themes including capacity, consent, and the impact of harm, alongside the importance of person-centred safeguarding approaches that uphold dignity, choice, and voice. It also considers how safeguarding responsibilities intersect with professional roles, organisational expectations, and legislative frameworks across different UK contexts.

Alongside response skills, the course places strong emphasis on creating and sustaining healthy safeguarding cultures. Participants will engage with trauma-informed practice, consider the impact of safeguarding work on themselves and others, and explore how organisations can support safe inclusion while maintaining appropriate boundaries and accountability.
