Growing healthy practice in children’s, youth work and education environments

This is a dynamic and in-depth training course designed for those working with children and young people in both faith-based and wider community and educational contexts. This course takes a deeper look at key safeguarding themes, equipping children’s and youth workers and educators to respond well to disclosures, manage concerns with clarity, and create environments that are not only safe but brave. Through real-life scenarios and practical reflection, participants will explore the differences between concerns, disclosures, and allegations, and develop core skills in active listening and safe response. We’ll also examine challenges such as gaslighting and bypassing, and their impact on children and young people. This course is offered in multiple contexts to enable you to benefit from contextualisation to your specific environment.

The course provides guidance on maintaining healthy boundaries in pastoral care, recognising the need for clarity and consistency in supportive relationships. It also addresses the realities of vicarious trauma, helping workers recognise signs and symptoms, understand its effects, and take proactive steps to protect and sustain their own wellbeing. With a focus on trauma-informed practice and the role of regular debriefing, this course helps build resilience and confidence in those supporting children and young people.
